(Tom Puaria, April 2016) In April the annual Literacy Week was celebrated on Mortlock Atoll. This year’s theme was “Reading Power”. The School invited me as Guest Speaker to speak on the power of reading.
One of the activities that day was a Bible quiz I arranged with teachers. Two teams took the challenge, Team English and Team Takuu. When questions were asked, teams were to get their answers from their selected Bible versions, the TEV or the Takuu translations.
Surprisingly Team Takuu ended up winners, a result of understanding the Scriptures in their own lanuage, and were awarded a prize.
Various groups, both adults and students, put up very good dramas to celebrate Literacy Week, and the Elementary School displayed written Biblical stories in Takuu.
