After a series of visits and discussions in Guam over the past few months, the Pacific Islands University (PIU) and the Isles of the Sea group are getting close to offering a minor in Bible translation. The six courses that make up this minor have already been approved by the curriculum committee of the University. If this proposal gets the green light from the full PIU faculty and then from the board, students will be able to begin taking courses for this minor in August 2012.
Through this training we hope to build capacity for Bible translation in Micronesia and the wider Pacific. Students who follow these courses will have a better understanding of the issues and process involved in this ministry. In the future they may play a part in Bible translation for their own language or facilitate work in one of the 2000 languages around the world that still lack a word of the Scriptures.
