On November 15, 2024, Pacific Island University (PIU) on Guam and SIL Pacific signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding to further Bible translation education in Micronesia.
PIU officials, President Ian Richards, Board of Trustees Chairman Gov. Felix Camacho, and VP for Academics Paul Drake met with SIL Pacific Group director Paulus Kieviet and Bible Translation Project Advisor Ken Dixon on the PIU campus in Guam to sign the document.
The objectives of the MOU are to build vision and capacity for Bible Translation as a mission and ministry of the church, equip Pacific Islanders for Bible Translation, and to build capacity for Pacific Islanders to think theologically in their own language and context.
“Since translation is the work of the church, we hope to give PIU students a vision for translating songs, books and commentaries into their own languages as well as becoming translators for other languages around the world,” said translation advisor Ken Dixon.
“We’re blessed by this partnership with SIL Pacific Group that will further PIU’s mission in Micronesia,” said PIU President Ian Richards. VP for Academics Paul Drake added, “I’m excited for our students to see Bible translation in action and participate.”
