About a year after the Isles of the Sea project was launched, the first Isles conference was held from February 22-26, 2011 in conjunction with the bi-annual conference of the SIL Pacific Group (PCG) conference. The venue was the Treetops Motel in Cairns, which provided a great place for fellowship, team building and vision-casting. Present were representatives from The Seed Company, Wycliffe Bible Translators Australia and New Zealand, SIL Pacific Area, SIL PCG along with eight Polynesians from Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Tonga, all of them involved in one way or another in the ministry of Bible translation in the Pacific.
