(February 2019) Nico Daams wrote a short book about translating YHWH, the Hebrew name of God. The book can be downloaded from this page.
In most Bible translations, both in English and other languages, this name is translated as “Lord”, or an equivalent with similar meaning. In this booklet, Nico points out that this does not do justice to the fact that YHWH is the name of God. Using “Lord” instead of the name itself has various consequences for our understanding of this name. Therefore it is worthwhile to consider other options. This has been done, for example, in the Kapingamarangi Bible translation.
